I have a deeply personal theory (as a Christian) that meshes well with my medical observation that nice folks get sick and die, and nasty old SOB's make it to 88. I really think that going to heaven is a GREAT thing, and that those who love and serve the Lord well get to go to the "head of the line" and enjoy paradise before they have to suffer or be tested any more on this side. Many times their faith is a learning tool and inspiration for non-believers. Some folks can serve God and others in mere hours on earth, and be protected from horrid things that they would have to face if they spent more time "here". On the other hand, a merciful God seems to give people who don't know and serve Him extra chances, more days here to learn and change before they have to face the Lord and consequences of the life they chose. This is nothing more than my thoughts, but it seems to be consistent with the Word, and helps a little to explain to others why the good die young....not because they did anything WRONG but because they got a chance to go Paradise, and wait there for the rest of us. I am not afraid of death, but the process disturbs me because as a medical provider, I believe we as a nation do a very poor job in "dying". Prayer for your friend’s family and you, as well.
