You tell them to talk to the doc.

You call the doc if need be. "Say, Mr. Jones here hit the donut hole and can't afford his drugs. Have you heard of omeprazole?"

Most of the PAPs now allow for donut-hole coverage, because they know that they can give up 2-3 months of Zyprexa for another 4-6 months of $600/month reimbursed drug.

Well, what do you do when they can't afford the drug and it's something that they really could die without?

Just curious.

I've been dead broke at the end of the month and had to go without my medication for a week... It was just cocodamol, tramadol, buscopan, omeprazol and metacoplamide, so nothing dangerous, but it was a week of misery and pain.

Oh, How many times I have heard "Well, I'll just go and die then." I guess people all over lack creativity in their whining, as if I am going to back pedal and say "oh, don't die, here take this for free..."yea right.

Ah, they always forget about the "loaned" meds on the weekends. I've been asked about that many times. But, on the times we forgot to take out the "loaned" meds after we rec'd a new Rx....shazaam, nobody has said we gave them too many pills.

As for the donut hole, sometimes you explain to them until you are blue in the face. It's never THEIR fault. Either the govt/Medicare or the pharmacy is just sticking it to them. They will say there is no way they have spent that much money....then you do a little printout showing indeed they have. I guess my favorite line is "I guess I'll go home and just die, then." And this is from someone who usually is not destitute but loves to choose Nexium and Crestor instead of Omeprazole and Simvastatin, sorta like you pointed out PC. Thankfully, I have many who know take ownership in their health care and know their plan and ask their doctor for generic alternatives. You gotta love those folks.
